A New Beginning

Sitting at my desk this morning, getting settled for the day, I began scanning through the events page for a local bookstore. As authors' bios and works blurred before my eyes, I realized how much I missed this: that glorious feeling you experience when unabashedly soaking up the vast array of material out there!

I regret having given up this challenge so quickly. It's not as though I put down The Paris Wife and never read for pleasure again. It's that I stopped viewing reading as an exciting challenge; instead it began a mere pleasant pastime when I grew weary of Netflix nights.

To quote a familiar sentiment from an unfamiliar politician:
"It is not true that we have only one life to live;
if we can read, we can live as many more lives
and as many kind of lives as we wish."
-S.I. Hayakawa
Today marks the start of a new journey, a new, exhilarating expedition into these many lives. I'll be resetting my challenge page today and archiving the old one below. Feel free to follow along my bibliophilic adventures. Who knows where we'll begin?

About Me:
I am a sophomore at Vanderbilt University majoring in Communication Studies and minoring in Corporate Strategy. Career-wise, my goal is to go into management, starting either in accounting or corporate consulting, however things play out. I'm a bit of a nerd, so that helps!

Reading has always been a passion of mine. One day in eighth grade, my 5th period chemistry teacher jokingly asked how many books I'd read that day. When I responded I was halfway through my second, boy, was he surprised! As a busy student, however, I don't read nearly as much for pleasure as I'd like, and I find myself primarily reading three types of books: historical fiction, crime dramas, and classics. So, when I found a link to this challenge on Pinterest, I immediately fell in love. I'm competitive enough that a "challenge" will entice me to read more (especially when my twin sister, Catie, is participating), and the variety of categories should get me reading more types of books than ever before!
